Depending on the light and the time of day the flowers can bevery deep blue (early morning when they first open in low light)or more turquoise (as the blooms age and more time spent in the bright sun)

Many plants were still in pots waiting for the intense heat of summer to simmer down a bit. The koi pond was up and running, fountains had been transported and installed, the weeds were growing by leaps and bounds and we were tired of the constant back and forth from old to new. The palms were planted, the house was decorated and the holidays arrived as we settled into our new digs.
Early January was pretty normal for The Bay Area, cool with blue skies, abnormally low rain fall, and work continued on the garden. Our contractor loaned us his big loader to use for the winter while the heavy work of grading the garden and moving boulders into place continued. Lots of mess and mud, but I did a lot of dividing of succulents that had lived in pots for years. This is Echeveria agavoides, Red Edge Echeveria, Lipstick Echeveria.
December 15th my DH arrived home with a large very nice Agave celsii for me! About 24" in diameter.

Some plants were moved in the Fall of 2006, some stayed in place until we could dig them in the Spring of 2007. The fish remained at the old house until early Summer 2007 when the new koi pond was dug. Here's the rough general plan for the new garden.

700 feet of concrete walls with 24" footers surround the garden. Their purpose is to keep out burrowing ground squirrels, pocket gophers and rattlers!

Since then it has been planted in the ground and is now roughing it out in the open. Extreme tempertures in the summer of 100+ and high 30's in the winter. It's an old German beer crate with Spanish moss placed in the openings. The moss helps keep enough moisture around the base of the tiny pots to keep the roots cool.
